Journaling with Kim (Part 1): Spring Equinox Reflection - Venus, Values, and New Beginnings

Updated: Mar 23

By Kimberly Jarena

This year the Spring Equinox will find me out on the ocean, celebrating my mom’s birthday. She was born on March 20, so the day has always carried special meaning for our family.

In 2026, March 20 is also the Spring Equinox, the moment when day and night stand in equal balance before the light begins to grow again. In astrology, it occurs when the Sun enters 0° Aries, marking the beginning of a new astrological year, a cosmic invitation to begin again.

Beginning with the numerology of March 20 itself, we can follow how a 3-2-1 pattern unfolds into Venus themes, a Moon–Venus alignment, and the Spring Equinox, each layer inviting reflection on values and the beginning of a new cycle.

The 3–2–1 Pattern

The numerology of the date invites reflection.

March → 3 (third month)

20 → 2 (2 + 0 = 2)

2026 → 1 (2 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 10 → 1)

Together they form a descending sequence: 3 → 2 → 1

Descending numbers often symbolize a moment of integration and simplification before moving forward, a quiet countdown inward.

Journal prompts

• Where in my life am I being invited to slow down instead of pushing ahead?

• What have I been expressing lately, and what still wants a voice?

• Which relationships are asking for deeper listening or balance?

• What part of my identity is ready to emerge in this new season?

The Energy Resolves Into 6

3 + 2 + 1 = 6

In numerology, the number 6 often reflects themes of:

care

love

harmony

relationships

emotional balance

alignment with our values

Journal prompts

• Where am I being asked to restore harmony in my life?

• What values do I want guiding this next season?

• How do I show compassion and care toward myself?

Personal Note

A small personal reflection here as well: this year my mom begins a 6 Personal Year, which in numerology is often associated with relationships, balance, care, and home.

I’m grateful she’s beginning this year with rest, because rest is often what allows us to restore harmony in our relationships and in how we give to others.

Interestingly, these same themes appear again in the sky that day through a Moon–Venus conjunction.

A Venus Moment Before the New Year

Before the Sun crosses into Aries, the Moon and Venus come together in the sky.

This conjunction occurs at 17 degrees, which in numerology reduces to 8.

Eight is often associated with:

• vision

• alignment

• personal authority

• stepping into one’s purpose and power

When the Moon and Venus meet, awareness often turns toward our emotional landscape and the things we truly value.

It’s a gentle moment of reflection before a new cycle begins.

Journal prompts

• What values are guiding my life right now?

• Where am I being asked to step into greater alignment with my purpose?

• What emotional truth am I ready to acknowledge?

A Collective Focus on Values

Sun, Moon, and Venus in the 2nd House

This moment becomes even more interesting when we look at the broader equinox chart. In the equinox chart, the Sun falls in the 2nd house, and the Moon and Venus also activate this part of the sky.

The 2nd house is associated with:

values

resources

self-worth

what we truly appreciate

the sensory experience of life

With the Sun beginning a new astrological year here, Venus and the Moon emphasizing the same themes, the message of this moment becomes clear:

before rushing into a new chapter, we are invited to reconnect with what we truly value.

Journal prompts

• What do I truly value in this season of my life?

• Where might greater self-worth change how I move forward?

• What experiences bring genuine beauty and appreciation into my daily life?

Stop and Smell the Roses 🌹

A Simple Equinox Pause

The rose has long been associated with Venus, symbolizing love, beauty, healing, and emotional awareness. Its soft petals represent tenderness and appreciation, while its thorns remind us that care and love are also protected by boundaries.

During a recent Venus Circle, Iya Sobande Greer of Natural Choices Botanica encouraged us to do something very simple when working with herbs: pause long enough to experience them through the senses. That advice stayed with me.

When I work with herbs, especially in the spring, I often hold them in my hand, take a slow breath, and simply smell them before writing or reflecting. Something about that pause helps quiet the mind and open space for clearer thoughts.

The Spring Equinox is a perfect moment to try this simple practice.

A Simple Equinox Activity

If you’d like to mark the equinox with a moment of reflection, try this:

Hold the rose petals gently in your hand.

Pause.

Take a slow breath.

Smell the roses.

Give yourself a moment to notice what arises before writing.

Sometimes something as simple as literally smelling the roses can shift our perspective and deepen the answers that come through reflection.

What You Need

• Fresh roses or dried rose petals

• Your hand (to hold the petals)

• A pen

• A journal or piece of paper

Then Write

After your pause, take a few minutes to reflect on the questions below.

Journal prompts

• Where am I moving too quickly to appreciate what is already blooming?

• What small moments of beauty or gratitude can I notice today?

• How can I honor both my responsibilities and my need for nourishment?

• As this new season begins, what values do I want guiding my life?

Closing

Beginning with the numerology of March 20, we followed how a simple 3-2-1 pattern unfolds into themes of harmony and reflection, echoed in the Moon–Venus alignment and the equinox chart’s focus on values and appreciation.

Together, these layers point toward the same quiet invitation: pause, notice what is already present, and reconnect with what truly matters.

This equinox feels even more special knowing it will find me out on the ocean celebrating my mom’s birthday. For me, it is a personal reminder of the balance, gratitude, and new beginnings we’ve explored throughout this reflection.
